knowing that they intended to come and make him king

Jesus feeds the five thousand:
John 6:14-15
14After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world." 15Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.


ummm..... my mind is still reeling at the implications of this verse. ive read John who knows how many times, and been told the story of the 5000 countless more times, yet somehow that bolded part of the verse above has been missed everytime. i dont even know what to think. I know He is the true King of the world, but what if He had been made king the first time he came? instead of being crucified, what if he was honored like he deserved? What if jesus had been reigning as king for 2000 years already, today?
